TransCentralPA
Speaker Series Presents:
"Tr ansgender
Victories and Challenges"
with Mara Keisling
Saturday, September 6th at 8:30 pm

The past 6-8 years have seen
dramatic transgender public policy victories concerning the
treatment of transgender people around the country. There
also have been challenges. Mara Keisling (bio),
who hails from Harrisburg, is the founding executive
director of the National Center for Transgender Equality.
Mara will discuss the victories and challenges we have seen
and those that are expected.
Mara will touch on NCTE’s new
federal policy agenda that covers a wide range of federal
policy areas that NCTE and others will work to impact over
the coming years.Mara and NCTE have been key players in the
UntedENDA movement to pass a transgender-inclusive
Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). Mara will discuss
what happened last year and what NCTE and the coalition are
doing in the coming months to get this important bill
passed.
Mara is a transgender-identified
woman and a parent. As one of the nation’s leading voices
for transgender equality, Mara has appeared on news outlets
such as CNN and CSPAN, and is regularly quoted in the New
York Times, the Washington Post and hundreds of other
national and local print and electronic media. She is a
graduate of Penn State University and did her graduate work
at Harvard University in American Government. She is a
founding board member of the Stonewall Democracy Fund, and
has served on the board of Directors of Common Roads, the
LGBTQ Youth Group of Central PA, and was previously on the
steering committee of the Statewide Pennsylvania Rights
Coalition. Mara has almost twenty-five years of professional
experience in social marketing and opinion research.
